{"id":1436,"date":"2026-01-28T10:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-01-28T10:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staging.fonafis.bf\/the-european-union-confirms-its-support-for-fonafis-2026\/"},"modified":"2026-01-28T10:00:00","modified_gmt":"2026-01-28T10:00:00","slug":"the-european-union-confirms-its-support-for-fonafis-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fonafis.bf\/en\/the-european-union-confirms-its-support-for-fonafis-2026\/","title":{"rendered":"The European Union confirms its support for FONAFIS 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene and the Delegation of the European Union to Burkina Faso have signed a <strong>technical partnership agreement<\/strong> to support the organization and holding of the National Forum on Health Financing (FONAFIS 2026), scheduled for March 25-27, 2026 in Ouagadougou.<\/p>\n<p>This agreement reflects the EU&#8217;s commitment to supporting health financing reforms in Burkina Faso, as the country pursues ambitious efforts to improve health coverage for its population.<\/p>\n<h2>A long-standing partner in the healthcare sector<\/h2>\n<p>The European Union is a long-standing partner of Burkina Faso in the field of health and human development. As part of its Multi-Annual Indicative Program 2021-2027, the EU has identified human development, and in particular improving access to basic social services and social protection, among its priority areas of intervention in Burkina Faso. The EU is thus contributing to the strengthening of health systems, nutrition, sexual and reproductive health and the prevention of malnutrition.  <\/p>\n<h2>Technical support for reforms<\/h2>\n<p>European support for FONAFIS 2026 is part of a wider initiative to accompany healthcare financing reforms in West Africa. The agreement provides for technical support for the preparation of the forum, in particular for sessions devoted to international experiences, the digitization of financing systems and the coordination of partners. <\/p>\n<p>The European Union will also be represented at the forum&#8217;s opening ceremony, during which international partners will deliver declarations of support for the reforms. It will also take part in session S24, dedicated to <strong>concrete commitments from technical and financial partners<\/strong>, where each institution will be invited to formulate specific commitments to support implementation of the forum&#8217;s recommendations. <\/p>\n<h2>A forum driven by international mobilization<\/h2>\n<p>EU support comes in addition to the mobilization of other major partners such as WHO, the World Bank, UNICEF, UNFPA, the Global Fund and GAVI, which together contribute around 21% of total health expenditure in Burkina Faso.
